American Crafts | Guest Designer...

hello hump day...

happy news, i am guest designer for  American Crafts! i've been a big fan of theirs for years and had the pleasure of using goodies from the Dear Lizzy, My Girl, Yes, Please by Amy Tan, May Berry, Lakeside collections and more.

below i have five projects to share along with close ups...

I've always wanted to create a layout using a variety of bubbles. Each word bubble is filled with a word/phrase and were cut out using my Cameo die-cut machine. Instead of using pop-dots for added depth, I cut another set of plain word bubbles with cardstock and backed each one up with it for thickness.

When I started this layout, I wasn't really sure how the design was going to come about. So, I decided to scraplift a previous layout I had created, this is something I love to do when the mojo is lacking creativity. I added pattern papers with different an array of shapes and kept with a tone-on-tone affect using a mix of elements to add flow and texture.

Inspiration came from the motif on the horse in the photo. I kept with a plain background and used large geometric shapes to be the main focal of my design. Each hexagon is layered with contrasting colors of pattern paper to continue to create flow from the photos. To fill in the space, I used the punched out tiny hexagons using chalkboard stickers. I love that they are self-adhesive and can create a simple embellishment with them.

This simple card has a lattice background, which adds a lot of texture to the overall design. I also used the leftover tiny circles from the die-cut circle pattern as well ass adding the striped pattern paper to bottom of card, which adds a bit of contrast. I love how the smooth texture of the fabric sticker looks against the solid pink paper and the lattice background.

The paper birdhouse was created using my Cameo die-cut machine. My daughter has been wanting a little birdhouse to display in her room and the May Berry and Lucky Charms pattern papers were perfect and to her liking. I layered the roof paper with cardstock for sturdiness and to make machine stitching easier. Quick and easy!

thanks for taking a peek... xo!

Elle's Studio | a collecton of layouts, close up...

good Monday morning...

as some of you know and may have already seen, Elle's Studio shared all the projects created w/ the Penelope collection, that were displayed at the summer CHA show in Vegas last week here. well, today i am sharing them with you, again, but along w/ the close ups....

i really enjoyed creating w/ the Penelope collection, an adorable girly collection w/ a unique collection of patterns and color pallete for sure...

i love how this page came together. i used arrows in different patterns and sizes, which are a fun and trendy geometric element. i added bits of tags, machine stitching and other elements for texture. i also have been enjoying the idea of using the same photo twice on a page, one b&w and one color.

since i had already printed these sweet photos of my girl baking cookies, i randomly placed the inside the Polaroid style frames and anchored them atop the page with bits of tags and hearts, which slightly mimicked the adorable 4x6 "these are the facts:" tag.

it was about time for me to scrap those Warrior Dash pictures... for this layout, i used a black film strip that was cut using my Cameo, to balance out the black striped background above and embellished around the photos with a variety of tags and pattern papers.

this layout was simple and fun. i loved the idea of tucking a mix of tags above the large photo while creating a striking title against the white background.

thanks for stopping by, xo!!!

this happened....

on Sunday. me & the girls having a blast at Katherine's (step) daughters wedding and like many others, we took advantage of being silly in the photo booth... good times!

while the kids were away...

the parents will play... well, sorta. it was more of us taking care of that long to-do list...

after arriving home from dropping the kids off at my parents, i was glad to see my Gossamer Blue package arrive... i practically ripped it open, ha...

wore my new capris and we drove up to Ikea to pick up towels that were on sale for $1, ha. yes, that's what we did on July 4th...

on our way from Ikea, we stopped to check out the new Fiat 500... love how it rides and handles the road... tempting!

weird celebrating w/out the kids home. instead of setting off our own fireworks, we watched them on tv... felt so old, lol...

finally killed the hornets nest that has been growing crazy fast for the past several weeks...

excited to see Hobby Lobby finally carrying project life goodies :)

laid out how the tile back splash would look and mentally prepared ourselves to do this install ourselves...

on the market for a kayak...

we celebrated our 11th anniversary w/ dinner at my favorite Asian resto, Miso's...

the man steamed cleaned all the carpets in the house. this was totally needed...

i spent a full day gutting out both kids bedrooms/closets. this was way overdue...

after a year of renovating the kitchen, i finally put up a fresh new color on the walls. and yes, it took me that long to figure out the color... Spa by Behr.

we grilled ribs for the first time ever. i made a homemade bbq sauce that was out of this world and the man cooked them perfectly on the grill.... we were in heaven!

our next door neighbor was super kind to give us her old basketball post... we cleaned it all up w/ a power wash and spray painted the pole. our little surprise for Tyler...

goofed off in the photo booth after watching World War Z... LOVE LOVE that movie!

spent some time w/ friends after baby Lily was Christened. so happy to be apart of her little life...

xo!

a very nice and productive eight days w/out the kids... this is something i think we need  to do every year... a little quality time alone w/ the man and to be able to get stuff done around the house that we haven't been able to do when the kids are around.
